  1. I have never competed in powelifting, but I would like to get my feet wet this year. Is there a competition for novice competitors and how do I join your association?

  2. Victor, we do not have a “Novice competition” per se, so you could enter at any time. Our next event after the Provincials will be in the summer at some point. I will post the information here once it has been decided. You can join our provincial association by purchasing a CPU card. These will be available at the Provincials in February. Once you are a member you will be able to compete at any CPU competition or IPF affiliated competition throughout 2014.

It would be a good idea to come down to the meet in February to introduce yourself and see what a meet is like. We would be happy to help out in any way to get you started.

  3. I was just wondering if there is any way to get in touch with a real powerlifting gym and be surrounded by people doing that sport, a little bit like a westside barbell type of thing, in Brandon….

  4. Hugo, there are a few Powerlifters in Brandon but I am not sure where they train. As far as anyone following Westside style of trainnig I can not say. Perhaps if you post this question on our Forum as well some of the lifters out in the western part of the Province will respond. Our Forum’s address is http://mbpowerlifting.proboards.com/

There is a good group of strong lifters in Dauphin if you wanted to contact them about training once and awhile. Also, you could connect with some of the Winnipeg lifters if you happen to come to the peg down the road.

  5. Hello,

How much is a membership and to be part of the a club. What days and hours are the gyms open to train?

  6. What club are you asking about Susan? A CPU card to compete in Manitoba is $60.00 this year. If you were asking about gym memberships it is best to contact them directly.

  10. Hello

So I was hoping to attend the next meet and lift in my first one. Unfortunately, it looks like my hockey playoffs will be starting up right around that time. Now I don’t know when I will be getting the playoff schedule, but I am pretty sure it will be right around the 6th as that is the last day of regular season games. Is there anyway I can talk to someone about maybe being able to sign up like I will be lifting in the meet, and then maybe last minute pulling out and not losing my money if it does turn out I have a game that day?

I completely understand if not as that could be unfair to other lifters, but I thought I might as well give it a shot.

    Thanks

  11. If you don’t think you will be able to attend I would appreciate you holding off with your entry. The cut off date is there for a reason which allows the organizing team enough time to complete the logistics necessary to make for an efficient competition. We know that there are lifters who may sustain an injury and back out but if you are uncertain about your abilities to compete I would appreciate you considering to enter a later meet.

  12. There is not a competition scheduled for Nov 23/15. Perhaps you are looking at last year?

  15. I was looking at the document of provincal records, it said in the equipped juniors for 105kg weight class the squat record is 147.5kgs if so, when is the next up coming competition, I’ve never competed but I am wanting to very badly, especially before I turn 19. Where I find up coming competitions?
    Thanks.

  17. I’m hoping to compete for the first time at the meet in February. Can anyone tell me if Adidas singlets are acceptable? I noticed it is not on the approved manufacturer list.
    Cheers

  18. Johanna only IPF approved equipment and singlets will be allowed on the platform. I apologize for the late reply things have been busy.

  19. For the meet results, I know the weight classes are in kg but can you confirm if the weights for each movement are listed in lbs or kg?

  20. I just handed in my brickhouse powerlifting challenge for
Yesterday. Please let me know when you get it. I have it to Paul.

  21. There are a few Powerlifting friendly gyms in Winnipeg. Acceleration Fitness in St. Boniface, Brickhouse on Rte 90. Others train at St Boniface College, 17 Wing. Our next meet will be held in April. You can reach out to us on Facebook and our Forum page as well. Rules can be located on the CPU Website and the IPF website.

    Where do you reside?

  22. Hi there,

I am looking for someone to contact regarding Powerlifting Referees.
Special Olympics Manitoba is putting on their Provincial Summer Games in Brandon from June 16 – 18 and we are looking for any referees who may be interested in attending.

    Thank you.

  23. Meaghan, in order for our Referees to officiate the lifters they would need to be MPA members just the way they were a few years ago. At this point in time I am at our National Championships and I will contact you when I return.
