***Holy Moly why is this meet so cheap?
Well, this meet will be a small private meet with no sponsors, no prizes, no free t-shirts, no fancy banner, no media packages, no audience space. We are very grateful that Iron Image Gym is donating the meet space and warmup area for free – that makes a huge difference in the cost to the lifter. We also usually try to earn some money from MPA-run meets to put into our bank account for ongoing expenses and future equipment purchases, but we are forgoing that option here. (We could not afford to do this for every meet.) In addition, we are hearkening back to our roots and expecting a bit more volunteerism from our lifters to help reduce costs.
The theme of this meet is POWERLIFTING COMMUNITY.
LIFTERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO EITHER HELP SET UP, HELP TEAR DOWN, OR PROVIDE SOME OTHER VALUE TO THE MEET. DETAILS ARE IN THE REGISTRATION PAGE. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Please note we are NOT providing free t-shirts for lifters. We are making t-shirts available to lifters who register before Aug 29, for a cost of $15 per shirt.
Just because we are having a small meet doesn’t mean we won’t have fun. We will hand out the usual weight and age class medals. Lifters will walk onto the platform to their favorite song. All lifters will be announced with their wrestling names (you choose, or we do). And there will be a grand prize of a free MPA membership for best dressed lifter. (All lifters must still conform to IPF personal apparel rules – but that leaves a lot of room for style! Winner will be chosen from votes made by the lifters, coaches, volunteers, and livestream audience.)
OUR VENUE IS TOO SMALL FOR AN AUDIENCE, BUT WE WILL LIVESTREAM THE MEET. Please plan accordingly. Each athlete can only bring one support person/coach – there is no room for an audience beyond the lifters and their coaches. Entry will be limited to people with designated athlete or coach bracelets. Iron Image is allowing us to use part of their main gym for a warm-up area but will remain open to their usual members. We will respect their space by staying in the areas designated for this meet.
No professional photography allowed. Cellphone photos and videos from the audience area only. We will do a group photo at the end!
